Galway City Council receives €1,911,918 and Galway County Council receives €1,333,290 under the Community Recognition Fund.
The Community Recognition Fund 2023 has been established in an effort to recognize and support the communities that have welcomed and hosted a significant number of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries. The fund aims to aid the development of community infrastructure and facilities that will benefit both the new arrivals and existing community members.
The allocated funding of €50 million has been distributed among local authorities based on the number of new arrivals in each area.
The funding proposals submitted by local authorities had to be developed through direct engagement with impacted communities.
Consultation with Municipal Districts, Local Community Development Committees (LCDC), and local Community Response Fora was essential in ensuring that the proposals align with the needs and aspirations of the communities involved.
Furthermore, the proposals had to be consistent with the respective Local Economic and Community Plans.
The Community Recognition Fund 2023 aims to not only support the immediate needs of the new arrivals but also invest in the communities, villages, and towns where the highest concentration of arrivals is located. By fostering infrastructure development and facilitating community engagement, this initiative seeks to enhance the overall well-being and integration of both the new arrivals and the existing community members.
The Community Recognition Fund serves as a testament to the importance of recognizing and supporting the communities that have shown exceptional hospitality and inclusivity towards those seeking refuge and a fresh start in their new surroundings.
