Minister of State in the Department of Health and Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Anne Rabbitte TD, has confirmed today (Wednesday) that a Covid-19 walk-in test centre is being established in Ballinasloe. The test centre will be set up in the Town Hall / Library Carpark in Ballinasloe this weekend.
Minister Rabbitte commented,
It’s great to see the walk-in test centre being established in the Town Hall / Library Carpark in Ballinasloe from this Friday through until Sunday, and I thank the pace at which NPHET and public health officials are working to get these up and running.
This test centre is operated on a walk-in, no appointment necessary basis and it’s free. We’ve already seen how beneficial these centres are when set up elsewhere. Around one in five people have no symptoms of COVID-19 and can spread it without knowing so such a setup uncovers these cases. I would urge anyone living near the walk-in test centre and who might be concerned about COVID-19, to get a free test once it’s up and running. Bear in mind that you need to be at least 16 years of age to use the test centre.
Minister Rabbitte concluded,
Such a test centre allows Public Health catch as many asymptomatic cases in the area, which helps curb the spread of Covid-19. Increased community testing is an important step in our ongoing battle against this virus and helps us identify cases a little easier.
