Exciting News: Portumna Courthouse is Officially Opening!
I am thrilled to see the imminent opening of the Portumna Courthouse, a brand-new community facility right in the heart of Portumna.
This newly renovated space will serve as a hub for local events, meetings, and activities, bringing our community together in a modern and welcoming environment.
Remote workers, our arts, local societies, and our whole community will all benefit from the reimagining of this space.
The funding was provided under the €1 billion Rural Regeneration and Development Fund, which supports the key objectives of Our Rural Future, the government’s ambitious new policy for Rural Ireland.
In 2021, I welcomed the news that we had reached an important milestone—€2.55 million had been allocated to the development of Portumna Courthouse, Co. Galway, welcoming Minister Heather Humphreys to Portumna.
After being vacant for two decades, the courthouse has now been transformed into a new multi-purpose arts, remote working, and social space, with the courtyard becoming an outdoor social space and cafe.
Senator Anne Rabbitte commented:
This project will breathe new life into Portumna and making it an attractive and vibrant places for people to live, work, socialise and raise a family.
When we launched Our Rural Future, I said I wanted to see innovative and exciting projects coming forward that would make a real and lasting difference in our rural towns and villages – that’s exactly what has been achieved in Portumna.
Projects will not only enable people to live and work in their community but they will also see iconic town centre buildings given a new lease of life and increase football for local businesses.
This is Our Rural Future in action, and this is only the beginning.
