The Longest Night
Samaritans will mark the Winter Solstice on Wednesday, December 21st with their annual awareness campaign called the Longest Night where we highlight to people in need of our support that Samaritans are there for them during their darkest hours, especially over the festive period.
The Samaritans are appealing to landmarks, local authorities, universities, and businesses to light up their buildings and outdoor locations in GREEN to support us.
Several national and local landmarks have taken part in recent years including Dublin Air Traffic Control, Cork City Hall, Kilkenny Castle, the Rock of Cashel, Government Buildings and Stormont.
Any images taken can be shared with Samaritans Ireland and Samaritans Galway branch Twitter feeds by tagging @SamaritansIRL and @galwaysamaritan and by using the hashtags #SamaritansLongestNight and #LongestNight.
Suggested Tweet to promote Longest Night (on/before Dec 21st) 2022.

CHRISTMAS
Samaritans know that Christmas is not the jolliest season for everyone and can be a stressful time, with many people struggling to cope or left feeling isolated and alone.
Last December, Samaritans answered almost 35,000 calls for help in Ireland, including 1,120 calls on Christmas Day.
It’s important people know that Samaritans will be there for them 24 hours a day, even on Christmas Day, on freephone
116 123 or email jo@samaritans.ie.
You can help The Samaritans promote their service this Christmas and reach those who need them most by sharing the below message on your social media platforms over the festive period.
Proposed Tweet to share over Christmas:
You don’t have to be alone or left struggling to cope this festive season. @SamaritansIRL are here to listen and to support you no matter what, even on Christmas Day. Samaritans are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I will be sharing the Samaritans digicards throughout the holidays and would encourage everyone to do so too.
