Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East Anne Rabbitteis delighted to announce a tourism feasibility study has been commissioned by Fáilte Ireland to examine the Beara Brefine Way.
Deputy Rabbitte commented:
I have been in continuous dialogue with senior officials in Fáilte Ireland to push for investment on the Beara Breifne Way. I am delighted to confirm they have commissioned a feasibility study into the walk way
This walk way is already a popular amenity and, with investment and marketing, can increase its popularity which will have positive tangible benefits for the wider area. In Galway we benefit from the Wild Atlantic Way, but there is a valid argument we could improve the reach of tourism in our county. Upgrading the Beara Brefine Way in Galway can be one such improvement.
Deputy Rabbitte continued:
I understand the feasibility study will examine the existing trail to better understand:
- the physical state of the existing identified route to include on and off-road sections
- the status of the physical trail
- wayfinding & signage
- trail infrastructure and interpretation
- proximity of the existing trail to key villages and towns with visitor services
- proximity of the trail to key visitor attractions and activities
Deputy Rabbitte concluded:
This walkway has been cared for by dedicated volunteers locally and now is the time for some real investment. I look forward to the outcome of the feasibility study and will continue to engage with Fáilte Ireland.
